- On Monday, December 1st, the <7th Jungbong Academic Awards Ceremony> was held at the Loft House on the 6th floor of La Casa Hotel. The event was attended by the donor, Chairman Lee Hyun-goo (Business Administration '68, Chairman of La Casa Works Co., Ltd.), along with La Casa Group General Representative Lee Hyung-woo, La Casa Hotel CEO Lee Ji-woo, La Casa Works CEO Ki Dong-hyun, La Casa Group Team Leader Lee Joo-hee, Business School Dean Lee Jong-eun, Business School Associate Dean Seo Ah-young, Emeritus Professor Choi Jong-bum, Emeritus Professor Choi Kwan, Professors Park Ki-woo, Park Tae-yoon, Ahn Min-kwan, Oh Jong-min, Yoo Sang-seok, Chae In-young, Chief Administrator Kim Bum-joon, and Business School Alumni Association Secretary General Lee Jeung-sang. Starting from this 7th Jungbong Academic Award, in addition to the International S-class Jungbong Academic Award, the Jungbong Research Award was newly established to be given to professors who published papers in excellent International A1-class academic journals. Among the winners who greatly contributed to improving the research capabilities of the Business School by having their research achievements internationally recognized through paper publications in academic journals, Professors Park Tae-yoon (Management major), Ahn Min-kwan (Accounting major), Yoo Sang-seok (Management Information Systems major), and Chae In-young (Marketing major) were selected for the International S-class Jungbong Academic Award, and Professors Park Ki-woo (Management Information Systems major), Bae Joon-hyung (Management major), and Lee Hye-jin (Marketing major) were selected for the International A1-class Jungbong Research Award. Chairman Lee Hyun-goo delivered a congratulatory address, saying, "Thanks to the outstanding research capabilities of our young professors with strong research skills, four professors have won the S-class Jungbong Academic Award and three have won the A1-class Jungbong Research Award this year, and it is very encouraging that there have been such research achievements. I would like to express my deepest gratitude and congratulations to the award-winning professors today, and I will do my best to ensure that the Jungbong Academic Award system can continue as long as my strength allows. Meanwhile, the Jungbong Academic Award was established by Chairman Lee Hyun-goo (Business Administration '68, La Casa Works Co., Ltd.), head of the Business School Alumni Association, to encourage alma mater Business School professors to publish papers in the highest level international academic journals in each field of business administration, and marks its 7th anniversary since its first implementation in 2014.The "Jungbong Academic Research Fund" is a fund raised with the aspiration of "Jungbong Chairman Lee Hyun-goo" to make the university's Business School the best university. The "Jungbong Academic Award" is a system that provides 25 million won in prize money per recipient to support the research of full-time faculty members who published papers in top-tier international academic journals, International S-class, in each major field, and 7 million won in prize money per recipient to support the research of full-time faculty members selected by sector by publishing papers in excellent International A1-class journals.

- Alumnus Lee Chang-hee (1st Graduating Class of the Dept. of Commerce, now Business School) Donates 100 Million KRW to the ‘Gusan Ungang Scholarship Fund’ - "Wishing to Support Junior Students with the Heart of a Parent" On November 28, a ceremony was held at the Humanities and Social Sciences Campus to commemorate a donation of 100 million KRW to the "Gusan Ungang Scholarship Fund" by alumnus Lee Chang-hee (86), a member of the inaugural graduating class of the Department of Commerce (now the SKKU Business School). The event was attended by around 20 guests, including SKKU President Ji-beom Yoo, Hyundai Corporation Vice Chairman Won-gab Kim (Chairman of the Fundraising Committee for the 2nd Business Building), Vice President of the Humanities and Social Sciences Campus Hoon-seok Choi, and Dean of the Business School Jong-eun Lee, alongside the donor's two daughters, family members, and close acquaintances. The word "Gusan (九山)" in the fund's name honors the pen name of Lee's late father. Alumnus Lee explained his motivation for the donation, stating, "I wanted to be a source of strength for my junior students with the heart of a parent caring for their own children." Entering the newly established Department of Commerce in 1958 and graduating in its first class, Lee began his career in public service in 1963. He dedicated over 30 years to finance and urban administration at the Seoul Metropolitan Government, serving in key roles such as Director of Urban Renewal in Gangseo-gu, Director of Construction Management in Seongbuk-gu, and Director of Citizens' Affairs in Yeongdeungpo-gu. In recognition of his outstanding contributions to public service, he was awarded the Service Merit Medal (Geunjeong Pojang) in 1988. President Ji-beom Yoo expressed his profound gratitude, saying, "It is deeply meaningful that an alumnus from the very first graduating class of the Department of Commerce has shown such a warm heart to his juniors after all these years. We will faithfully reflect the donor's intentions in supporting our students and further developing the university." Alumnus Lee shared his hopes, adding, "I hope this scholarship fund, named after my father's pen name, will be of some help to the junior students at my alma mater. I look forward to seeing the university continue to grow as a global leader in nurturing core talent." To express its appreciation, the university presented alumnus Lee with a plaque of merit, a framed calligraphy of the characters "Gusan Ungang (九山雲江)," and commemorative university merchandise. The Gusan Ungang Scholarship Fund will be dedicated to scholarship programs supporting current students at the SKKU Business School.

- The first International Compensation, Motivation, and Performance Conference (ICoMP) will be held
- The College of Business will hold the first Bi-Annal International Compensation, Motivation, and Performance Conference (ICoMP) for two days from January 8th (Thursday) to 9th (Friday), 2026. ICoMP is an international academic conference focusing on compensation, motivation, and performance research, and is a global conference co-hosted by Sungkyunkwan University (Korea), Cornell University (USA), and Nanyang Technological University (Singapore). The three organizations will tour every two years, and Sungkyunkwan University will take a leading role as the venue for the first event. This ICoMP was prepared to discuss in-depth interdisciplinary research on organizational performance and human resource management. The core theme of reward and motivation is a research area closely connected to various fields such as economics, sociology, and strategic management as well as business administration, where global scholars will gather to share the latest research results and empirical, theoretical, and case-based studies in multiple layers. In particular, a large number of world-class scholars will participate in this conference. Global leading researchers, including Claudine Gartenberg of Wharton School, Matthew Lee of Harvard Kennedy School, and Ben Rissing of Cornell University, will attend as speakers and presenters to lead in-depth discussions on compensation, organizational motivation, and performance management. Their participation is expected to further strengthen Sungkyunkwan University's international research status. Through this conference, Sungkyunkwan University expects various effects such as ▲ Strengthening international research networks with leading universities in the world ▲ Providing a venue for interdisciplinary convergence research ▲ Increasing research competitiveness of the school's researchers in international journals ▲ Strengthening students' capacity to operate international academic events. - Professor Kim Do-hyun (major in management) appointed as co-chairman of AKMS
- Kim Do-hyun, a professor at Sungkyunkwan University's business school, has been appointed as the co-chair of the Association of Korean Management Scholars (AKMS). His term runs for two years from 2025 to 2027. Launched in 1999, AKMS is a research group of Korean business scholars overseas and has more than 400 members. At the annual international conference of AOM (Academy of Management), the world's largest international society in the field of management, Korean management scholars and doctoral students present recent papers and select excellent researchers and scholarship students under the sponsorship of Maekyung Media Group, Samsung Global Research and AmorePacific. Meanwhile, the next AKMS event will be co-hosted with Sungkyunkwan University Business School BK21 Project Group on August 2, 2026 in Philadelphia, USA.

- Jang Soo-yeon (23) Study Group, Netherlands Exchange Student Story
- ◆ visa application process IND is the name of a residence permit visa issued by the Dutch Immigration Bureau. It is relatively convenient because you do not visit the embassy in Korea like exchange students in other countries and only need to register and pay simple documents. After arriving, I visited Breda twice to get a residence permit. The first one was to register my photos and fingerprints, and the second one was to receive a physical card. In the case of receiving the card, the school helped me collectively through Student office, but I couldn't receive it due to inevitable schedule, so I made a separate reservation. BSN number is the concept of Korea's resident registration number. For exchange students at Tilburg University, if they arrive at the city hall in downtown Tilburg at the time of the application and register as a kiosk, the office will help them one by one. The full text of the passport and dormitory contract has been printed out in advance in Korea, and both of these will be good administrative procedures if they are prepared immediately after arrival to open an account and issue a local number. ◆ flight ticket information I also paid for a direct flight of Korean Air three months before departure. The price was in the early 800,000 won range. Personally, I recommend you to pay for a round trip rather than a one-way trip for those who are going to the spring semester. By July, when you return from the semester, it is the peak season anywhere in Europe, so the price changes. There is also the option to change the date for free or with a small additional fee, so you can adjust it enough for the re-exam or other travel schedules later. Not knowing this, I thought my academic schedule was uncertain, so I bought a one-way trip, and the return flight was more expensive. For other Korean acquaintances, I also cut the round trip + date changeable ticket to around 1 million won. ◆ enrollment in a course After nomination, you can apply by looking at the list on a system called Osiris and searching for the number of students. After that, if the dispatch school approves it, you can take it. I heard that they would approve everything, but I was rejected only for data classes with advanced courses such as math subjects. I applied for the course by referring to the math report and Naver blog, and I can freely change it from TOP Week at the beginning of the semester to the first week, so I can put all the classes that I think will be okay for now, check if the evaluation method and class method are right for you, and then desenroll the classes I won't take, so you don't have to be too stressed. ◆ Recommended supplies - Bicycle Holder | You have to turn on Google Maps and look at the bicycle map for a month or two to adjust. It rains a lot in winter and it's very dangerous to carry a cell phone with your hands, so it's convenient to take it with you in Korea. - Bibimjang | There is an Asian mart nearby, so Korean food is expensive, but you can get the essentials. But I've never seen Bibimjang before. It was so good to boil and eat noodles sold at Asian marts with one. Rather, I don't eat other Korean food (block soup, coin broth, seaweed, etc.), so it's good to minimize Korean food when packing. - Bathroom slippers | hole-punching slippers are nothing like Daiso. - Mesh Bathroom Basket | Plastic is good, but it takes up a lot of volume in the carrier. Daiso has a mesh bag that dries water well. - Portable Carrier Scale | I borrowed it from another Korean brother, but it's really useful because I can get mental stability before I go to the airport. It's nice to be able to lend it to my friends during the return season. - At the beginning of the semester, the dormitory was sharing one secondhand per person, and at this time, I brought a rice cooker and a toaster with my flatmates and shared them in the shared kitchen. What you have in the warehouse is an area of luck, so make sure to bring the essentials you need. If you get cold a lot, an electric pad is a must. ◆ Other precautions If you don't know, please check again by e-mail. The administration of the dispatched teachers in the Netherlands, especially the dispatched teachers, seems to be faster than other European countries, so there was no other inconvenience. When I created the dispatched teacher account, the dispatched process was delayed a little because Microsoft Authenticator was not certified, but when I sent an e-mail, they responded quickly. They said it was difficult to make landline calls because they didn't have a Dutch number yet, so I was able to open Zoom and solve it quickly. ◆ A dormitory -Dorm/House Name: Verb, Location: On-campus, Cost: KRW 600,000 per month Verb was satisfied with the excellent management and service providers, usually living in two buildings where only exchange students live. I used to refer to the Tilburg exchange student blog a lot. On one floor, there are 17 rooms in three corridors, a shared kitchen, a shared shower, a shared bathroom, and two bathrooms. There are building number 4, building number 5, and there is a laundry room in the basement of building number 4, so please refer to it when you apply! (Actually, it's hard to apply because you're busy keeping a single room, thinking it's advantageous... I was like that, too.) All of my flatmates were exchange student friends, and I had a little bit of luck, so I was able to make rules well and develop a caring mind for each other in communities with different cultures. I was very worried because the server exploded when I applied for the dormitory, but I was able to share the difficulties because I made a group chat room with the college students going to Tilburg before applying. If you fail to apply for the dormitory, you have to get a studio apartment, etc., but it's very expensive and cumbersome, so you must apply! ◆ Cultural life and leisure activities provided by overseas universities I couldn't participate due to my schedule, but there was a ski camp provided by Top week. I cut the sports center right next to Verb on a monthly basis so that there was no surplus time not to travel, so I worked out almost every day. There are various programs such as tennis, boxing, squash, jumping fitness, Core 30, and hip hop dance, so I went there almost every day. There is a cafe at the back of the school, and we had a picnic in front of it. Living in the Netherlands, the price of eating out is very high, so I have a habit of rarely buying and eating lunch boxes, and I remember being very happy to share food and chat with my friends. In the class I took, students were advertising with short presentations at the start of each week, and there are various programs like sports sessions and management career camps. Other cultural activities and leisure activities were more significant, such as going to downtown Tilburg or taking Ns weekend pricing plan to travel to other cities in the Netherlands or to other countries. ◆ general review I looked back on the semester when my foreign friends started returning home. I thought time would pass by, but I didn't know it would be this bad. If you live in an unfamiliar environment every day, you can find small happiness and meet great difficulties, but six months have passed since I responded one by one with the mindset of "I didn't know it would happen" and "I'll do it if I do." The most recommended thing is to get insurance and set goals for exchange students. I've never been sick in Korea, but I had to go to the hospital, not just a cold, so I barely covered my expensive medical expenses with AON insurance. It's important to set up a good coverage and sign up, as I see that people around me are compensated even if the clothes I just bought are pickpocketed. Until I arrived in the Netherlands, I wanted to hang out with my local friends, but the Tilburg spring semester is the second semester, so I felt that it was a little lacking in the exchange student program. So, influenced by my flatmates, I changed routes and traveled more to Europe except for the exam period. If I had a cheap plane ticket, I went on a schedule, and I traveled for 8 days with a backpack. In particular, I was never in the dormitory on weekends due to Ns Weekend pricing plan in the Netherlands. I went to many small Dutch cities that I would not have been to on a trip to Europe from Korea. I was obsessed with what I could only experience there, but now that I look back, I didn't have to, I was just happy to be in the Netherlands. I recommend you to be an exchange student.

- The 5th Geonbong–Wolha Scholarship Award Ceremony Held… “The Positive Impact of Sharing Becomes a Great Strength for Stu
- Sungkyunkwan University’s Business School held the 5th Geonbong–Wolha Scholarship Award Ceremony on Monday, November 17, in the Yoon Eui-Kwon Advanced Lecture Hall (Room 401) on the 4th floor of the Business Building. At this year’s ceremony, Kim Won-gap (Business Administration ’72, Vice Chairman & CEO of Hyundai Corporation Holdings, Chairman of the Geonbong Scholarship Foundation), the donor of the Geonbong Scholarship, and Jeong Young-hwa (Business Administration ’72, Chairman of the Wolha Scholarship Foundation), the donor of the Wolha Scholarship, attended in person to encourage the scholarship recipients. Dean Jong Eun Lee of the Business School, Vice Dean Ayoung Seo, Department Chair Areum Choi of Business Administration, Department Chair In Young Chae of Global Business Administration, Administrative Director Beomjun Kim, and Alumni Association Secretary-General Jeung Sang Lee were also present. Together, they expressed their gratitude to the donors and shared a meaningful moment supporting the growth and future success of the scholarship students. A total of five students were selected as recipients of the 5th Geonbong–Wolha Scholarship: Kwon Hyun-jae and Kim Sun-min (both from the Global Business Administration Department), and Kim Seung-gyu, Jang Hyo-won, and Shin Somang (all from the Business Administration Department). On this day, Dean Jong Eun Lee expressed his gratitude, stating, “The continued generosity of our alumni gives our students great courage and hope.” He further encouraged the recipients, hoping that they would carry forward the spirit of SKKU Business School and grow into leaders who illuminate the world. It was followed by the award of scholarship certificates and appreciation of scholarship students. First, Kim Seung-gyu (management 20) said, "I deeply appreciate Kim Won-gap's donor, and I was able to focus on my studies and career preparation without any financial burden thanks to the scholarship." He said, "I will work harder to produce good results and become a warm person who can help my juniors." Student Shin Somang (Business Administration ’20) shared her personal background, explaining that she came to Korea alone from Bolivia and continued her studies despite difficult circumstances. She expressed her gratitude, saying that the Wolha Scholarship “provided essential support for establishing a stable living foundation.” She added that the scholarship played a significant role in covering her mother’s medical treatment and the costs needed for her family to settle in Korea. Thanks to this support, she has been able to reduce her translation work and focus on her ongoing project, “XR-Based Emotional Recovery Content.” She concluded by stating that, as a scholarship recipient, she hopes to never forget the support she has received and aspires to become someone who shares positive influence through content-driven businesses that create social value. Student Kwon Hyun-jae (Global Business Administration ’21) expressed deep gratitude, recalling the unforgettable moment he learned he had been selected for the scholarship while juggling two to three part-time jobs to support both his studies and living expenses. He noted that “this scholarship has given me the breathing room to focus on my academics and future plans,” enabling him to pursue certification studies and prepare for internships—goals he had long put on hold. He added that what makes him happiest is being able to offer some support to his mother, who is working hard in Guatemala. He pledged to follow Chairman Kim Won-gap’s example of warm generosity and to become someone who spreads positive influence to others in the future. The donors, Kim Won-gap and Jeong Young-hwa, remarked that they feel “great fulfillment in seeing students who do not lose sight of their dreams despite difficult circumstances,” and expressed their continued commitment to supporting students’ growth. The Geonbong Scholarship is funded by donations from alumnus Kim Won-gap and is operated as part of the Business School’s scholarship program, providing support each semester. The Wolha Scholarship, funded by alumnus Jeong Young-hwa, is offered every semester as a living-expense scholarship to assist students with essential daily needs. Both scholarships are awarded through the Office of Student Affairs to students in genuine financial need, and they carry significance beyond monetary aid—serving as a “foundation for academic continuity and personal growth.” The 5th Geonbong–Wolha Scholarship Award Ceremony was a meaningful occasion that reaffirmed the value of alumni giving and the core purpose of education. - 1. Hello, first, could you please introduce yourself? Hello. My name is Lim Eun-gyeol, a 21st-year student majoring in Business Administration who graduated in August 2025. I had some regrets about graduation, but I'm happy and grateful to have this opportunity to reflect on my college life through this interview. 2. I heard you received the Alumni Association President's Award for Academic Excellence/Research Excellence at the 2025 Commencement Ceremony. Could you share a brief acceptance speech? I wasn't expecting to receive this award, so I was initially quite surprised. I believe I was able to receive this award thanks to my family, friends, and everyone who has always supported me. I'm delighted to have received this meaningful award, and I hope to build on this experience to further grow in the future. 3. I heard you graduated with excellent grades! What are your secrets or know-how for achieving such great results? Honestly, I've never been good at planning my studies, and because of this, I often crammed right before exams. However, I always sat in the front row during class and tried to focus as much as possible. I also took notes to make sure I didn't miss any of the professor's key points or assignments. If the professor provided video lectures, I rewatched them to understand any confusing parts. My own secret is that when I listen to lectures, I don't just follow the material, but also keep in mind the professor's key points and the overall objectives of the class. 4. Were there any activities, on or off campus, that you participated in? Could you share some of your most memorable ones? While I wasn't very active in any activities, I truly remember my exchange experience in the UK during the second semester of my junior year. First of all, because all my classes and assignments were conducted in English, I was able to develop my ability to think and express myself in English. Living with roommates of completely different nationalities, I learned how to communicate and adapt, providing a variety of challenging and learning opportunities. Furthermore, the cultural experiences and trips I participated in during my exchange period allowed me to gain diverse experiences and broaden my horizons. Personally, I was contemplating my career path at a time when I was struggling, and my exchange experience was a valuable opportunity to reflect and gain new perspectives. 5. Is there a course you've taken that stands out in your memory? There are many memorable courses, but Professor Byun Jong-bok's "Business Analytics," my most recent, stands out. Business Analytics teaches how to analyze and solve real-world business problems using data. In class, we worked in groups, applying our business management knowledge, writing code using Google Colab, and creating models and submitting reports every week. Early on, I was unfamiliar with coding and research, so I worried about being a burden to my group members. When I got stuck on an assignment, I would often resort to researching materials and videos to find solutions on my own. However, midway through the course, I received a lot of help from discussing problems with my group members, and later, I even began helping them and working on projects together. This process, repeated over and over again, went beyond simply acquiring knowledge. The experience of collaborating with my team to achieve a common goal gave me a profound sense of accomplishment, and I was able to grow and improve throughout the course. Even though I took this course in my final semester, I put in more time and effort than any other class, making it a memorable course. 6. What are your future career paths and goals? I haven't decided on a specific career path yet, but I'm considering a direction that will leverage my major. Currently, I'm studying for the Certified Public Accountant exam. My long-term goal is to gain diverse practical experience and grow as a professional, but my primary goal is to obtain the certification. 7. Finally, if you have any final words for your fellow business school students, please share them with us. :) During your college years, I hope you'll try to embrace all the experiences available to you, not just academics, but also exchange programs and clubs. After graduating, I regret not having participated in more extracurricular activities. While it's important to think ahead and prepare for the future, the joys and opportunities that only a student can experience are precious in their own right. He encouraged the graduates by saying, "I hope that through this training course, you will develop into key talents who will enhance the transparency and trust of the Korean financial sector by demonstrating AML expertise in your respective organizations." Following the congratulatory remarks, an awards ceremony was held to recognize the outstanding paper teams that demonstrated outstanding achievement during the course. The Best Attendance Award was presented to a graduate who diligently participated in the training. The event concluded with a group photo, a commemorative moment for all attendees. This Financial Leaders Anti-Money Laundering Expert Course, designed for practitioners in the financial sector and related organizations, featured a practice-oriented curriculum that included introduction to finance, anti-money laundering legislation, practice, predicate crimes, capital confiscation, and accounting and taxation. Furthermore, a two-day workshop included paper proposal presentations and a student gathering, providing opportunities for in-depth learning that encompassed both theory and practice. All graduates were exempted from the first round of the K-CAMS certification exam and issued a Sungkyunkwan University Digital Learning Badge. This digital badge, which certifies the completion of a previously offline certificate of completion, can be easily used on social media and email signatures, and certifies the course graduate as an officially certified AML Certified Professional (Anti-Money Laundering Professional). A Sungkyunkwan University official stated, "This course has produced a number of practical anti-money laundering experts in the financial sector." They added, "We will continue to strengthen AML education and contribute to the spread of a global-level ethical financial culture." Following this 13th course, the Financial Leaders Anti-Money Laundering Expert Program will evolve into a curriculum more focused on practical application, with the 14th cohort scheduled to open in the first half of next year.

On Monday, November 10, Samjeong KPMG donated 300 million won to the 2nd Management Building Construction Fund (Certified Public Accountant Examination Preparation Center Construction Fund) at the 600th Anniversary Memorial Hall on the Humanities and Social Sciences Campus. The ceremony was graced by Samjung KPMG Vice Chairman Shin Kyeong-seop, Vice Chairman Jeong Dae-gil, Consulting Division Head Kim Jin-gyu, Deputy CEO Park Cheol-seong, and Executive Director Kim Seong-bae.
