Our college leverages high-tech education infrastructure.
Response to the new corona virus crisis
- Hold off classes for one week and hold classes for one or two weeks.
- Instructors choose between real-time streaming classes and pre-production methods.
Our university said, "By introducing innovative teaching methods that utilize high-tech education infrastructure in a full scale, we can respond quickly to the new corona virus and overcome the crisis."
Our university puts off the opening day for a week from 3.2 (month) to 3.9 (month), and the first or second week of the class is conducted by replacing it with online. And from the third week of the semester, 3.23 (Monday), the school will conduct offline lectures in the classroom.
Our university offers online lectures for the first two weeks of the course, utilizing a platform (i-Campus*) that allows students to easily take classes anytime, anywhere. The online lecture will be conducted by the instructor in two major ways: real-time streaming class method and upload method through pre-video production. In case of real-time streaming, the instructor will use the WebEx program** pre-supplied by the school in the lab or in a separate space.
* I-Campus : Platform for using online classes at Sungkyunkwan University
** Cisco WebEx Program: An integrated cloud-based, real-time lecture and conference communications app that is available anytime, anywhere on any device, such as PC or mobile.
If a video clip of a lecture is produced in advance, SKKU self-study or a lecture room that can store the lecture will be used. In addition, the ministry plans to provide related video writing tools, webcams, tablets, and microphones to help teachers film classes comfortably in the space they want (such as research labs).
Meanwhile, the Sungkyunkwan Language Institute, a Korean language institute, has already been conducting classes using 100 percent real-time streaming services since early February. The Sungkyunkwan Language Institute closed classes only in the first week (1.28-1.31) when the corona virus issue began to emerge, and immediately conducted online lectures from the following week to create an environment where students can study without a hitch.
Shin Dong-ryul said, "We are dealing with online lectures so that students can attend classes safely and smoothly," adding, "Most of all, all school members are making all-out efforts to ensure the safety of their students."
