On May 20th 2016, Professor Wenxian Li, Shanghai University had a seminar with graduate students from Chemical Engineering at SKKU. Professor Park Hoseok invited him for research collaboration.
The title was "Superconductivity mechanism of MgB2 and its superconducting properties".
The superconductivity and superconducting properties of MgB2 were discussed to elucidate the doping effects on the transition temperature variation and the critical current density enhancement. The sigma-band of MgB2 is naturally optimized and tensile strain is the one of the possible strategy to enhance the contribution of pi-band to improve the transition temperature of MgB2. Hydrogenation and graphene doping are the possible techniques to advance the pi-band contribution. To improve the critical current of MgB2 for practical application, graphene and graphene oxide were doped into MgB2 samples. Graphene or graphene oxide can increase the flux pinning force to enhance the superconducting current carrying capacity. Furthermore, the special dimension structures of graphene and graphene oxide show quite low blocking effects of the supercurrents, which are improved in the whole measurement field.
