ECH3040 Process analysis and equipment design 3 6 Major Bachelor 3-4 - No
The primary objective of the course is to teach design techniques for chemical processes to undergraduate students whose major is chemical engineering. The concept of basic design for chemical processes and computational design methods are presented and various techniques for economical analysis are covered in the course. The scheduling techniques for the construction of the chemical plant are also introduced. At the beginning of the course team projects are imposed. Students are supposed to give a mid-term presentation and to submit final design reports at the end of the semester.
ECH3048 Materials for Energy Convergence and Storage 3 6 Major Bachelor 3-4 Korean Yes
The course of materials for energy conversion and storage covers understanding of various energy conversion and storage technologies and physic-chemical properties of energy materials. Energy conversion and storage technologies include solar cell, converting solar energy to electrical enegy, piezoelectric device, converting pressure to electrical energy, fuel cell, converting chemical fuels such as hydrogen or alcohol to electrical energy, lithium battery, storing electrical energy to chemical energy. Based on the knowledges obtained from this class, students are expected to have ability to design materials and devices for high performance energy conversion and storage technologies.
ECH3052 Introduction to Process Design 3 6 Major Bachelor 2-4 Korean Yes
This course is organized so that core concepts in chemical engineering discipline are introduced within the two most important paradigms of engineering practice: design and analysis. This is to ensure that learning of chemical engineering start with the same emphasis with which it ends: design. This course emphasizes that students should be able to devise specific plans for chemical, physical and biological processes based on sound economic strategies and rigorous analysis of key phenomena, which is frequently required for chemical engineers to seek economically feasible solutions for diverse chemical engineering problems. Almost all principles and methods will be covered by examples and/or case studies with all the required knowledge and skills brought in on a just-in-time basis. Students will become familiar with the fundamental steps in process design and three useful tools of engineering analysis in a decreasing order of exactness: 1) mathematical modeling with the use of physical laws and constitutive equations; 2) graphical methods harnessing empirical correlations; 3) dimensional analysis relying on reasonable approximation of complicated systems to aid in acquisition of their big pictures.
ECH3053 Chemical Reaction Engineering 3 6 Major Bachelor 3 Korean,English Yes
The course of "Engineering of Chemical Reactions" is focused on developing fundamental reaction kinetics according to the types of ideal reactors such as CSTR and PFTR, which is essential for designing chemical processes. This course will also cover the characteristics of representative ideal reactors, analysis of application of reactors and effects of temperature and pressure to kinetic parameters and reaction rates and so on. In addition, the methods for optimization and design of reactors of single/multiple reactions and isothermal/adiabatic reaction will be also included in this lecture to enhance the student's abilities as a chemical engineer.
ECH3054 Polymer Processing and Application 3 6 Major Bachelor 3-4 - No
Polymer processing and its application will be covered in this class through regular lecture and practical laboratory training. The polymer processes are based on the fundamental principles based on Fluid Dynamics, Hear & Mass Transfer, and Rheology, which will be reviewed through examples of polymer processing. The course covers polymer application processes used in various industrial sectors including electrical/electronic/display, semiconductor, automobile, energy, aeronautic/aerospace, construction, etc.
