Throughout all the life-cycle processes including "Planning, Designing, Construction, and Maintenance" for Smart Cities, a variety of measurement / sensing data are required to be utilized. By taking this course, graduate students learns basic theories and principles of construction measurements that are employed at real construction fields and finally, acquires essential techniques to realized the intelligence of the construction-life cycle process throughout the establishment of database integrating urban information, geo-spacial information, building/bridge information and environmental information, etc.
RES5031 AI-based Smart Infrastructure Maintenance 3 6 Major Master/Doctor Global Smart City - No
This course offers an introduction to infrastructure maintenance based on artificial intelligence (AI), which is an emgerging technology. The recent revolutionary advancement of AI technologies innovates many engineering field, including infrastructure maintenance. This course includes machine learning, which is an important part of AI technologies, including Regression, Support Vector Machine, Clustering, and Neural Network. In addition, students learn how the machine learning techniques are used for infrastructure maintenance. Programming the machine learning techniques using actual field testing data is also included for students to better understand infrastructure maintenance.

The objective performance assessment of sustainable/low-carbon/green buildings is important. The class introduces the performance assessment theories and principles. Analyses of present approaches (LEED, Energy Star, ASHRAE-IESNA) are presented. Tools and case studies of building/facilities energy performance, sustainability, low-carbon buildings are presented.

Various issues for the Next New Normal era are covered with focus on topics related to BIM(Building Information Modeling) and Smart Construction. Expert invitation seminars as well as students presentation and discussions are the main stream of this class.
RES5035 BIM Applications 3 6 Major Master/Doctor Global Smart City - No
The objective of this class is to understand and practice various BIM uses throughout the project life-cycle. Students learn and practice BIM data construction and application followed by smart technology incorporation methods during the design and construction phases. In addition, research topics on BIM are extracted and discussed through the class.
RES5036 BIM-based Construction Planning and Control 3 6 Major Master/Doctor Global Smart City - No
This class teaches methods to build a construction plan and 4D simulation for Smart City, facilities, or buildings using BIM(Building Information Model). Through hands-on experience on BIM tools of 4D CAD as well as building construction plans, students are going to have a basic knowledge for construction plans required for smart city or facility construction. Students in this class should have basic knowledge for BIM authoring tools, such as ArchiCAD or Revit.

The smart city uses digital technology or information technology(ICT) to reduce resource consumption and cost, to enhance quality of urban service. Students learn smart transportation with the purpose to reduce road congestion and improve safety is composed of element technology of smart city. This class introduce new technology for smart transportation such as Intelligent Transport Systems, Big data, Electric Vehicle, Driveless car and Complexity theory etc. and lecture basic principle and theory of smart transportation to make more advanced services. Students can understand smart transportation and acquire current research trend and future works of it after finishing this course.
RES5039 Smart and Resilient City 3 6 Major Master/Doctor Global Smart City - No
In the framework of this multidisciplinary course students will get familiar with the concepts of urban sustainability, resilience and livability. Theoretical knowledge will be achieved and applied in the analysis of given urban areas in Korea regarding sustainability, resilience and livability criteria. The analysis includes built-up areas, landscapes and infrastructure systems. Students will determine measures and design plans for sustainable, resilient and livable urban redevelopments based on strength, weaknesses, opportunities and threads of the specific analyzed urban areas. The student’s multidisciplinary urban redevelopment concepts will be assigned to feasible redevelopment periods and designated lifetimes. The course consists of multidisciplinary lectures, individual research and analysis, multidisciplinary group workshops, and the individual academic writing of a summary report. This course includes theoretical studies and the integration of the DGNB (German Association for Sustainable Building) basic knowledge on Sustainable Planning and Building, and trainings for the degree DGNB Registered Professional.

Students will study Sustainable Urban Development principles to meet the UN 2030 Sustainable Development goals by transforming existing urban environments. Course participants will apply the findings in the revision and editing of research and design results that focus on the sustainable and resilient transformation of the SungKyunKwan University (SKKU) Natural Sciences Campus, including its buildings, open spaces, and infrastructures. The editing of the existing materials includes preparing a master plan and the quantitative and qualitative analysis of improvements before and after campus transformation according to specific sustainability aspects and related criteria. Sustainability aspects are associated with topics, architecture, mobility, landscape, green, water, energy, and materials.

This class is designed to analyze the impact of water-related disasters on the city. In order to observe and analyze the relationship and impacts between the watershed and the surrounding cities, satellite based remote sensing data are used. To analyze the various cases of water disasters in the past, various observation data of related factors are controled. Furthermore, by analyzing the patterns of disasters caused by climate change, students learn to design safer urban environments.
