The semester will begin with an overview of risk, vulnerability, resilience and then focus on disaster institutions, policy, and politics. We will conclude by examining organizational and individual behavior in high-stress situations. Throughout the semester, particular attention will be paid to how disaster management efforts can increase the vulnerability of some populations or can promote widespread resilience.

It also include data processing technique for analyzing the surveyed information in the field of disaster events.
DRM5031 Social and Economic Impact of Disaster 3 6 Major Master/Doctor 1-8 Korean Yes
Natural disasters have themselves a tremendous impact on the poorest of the poor, who are often ill-prepared to deal with natural hazards and for whom a hurricane, an earthquake, or a drought can mean a permanent submersion in poverty. The Economic Impacts of Natural Disasters focuses on these concerns for poverty and vulnerability. This course include economics of natural disasters, disaster management, sustainable development, environmental economics, environmental risk management, and environmental policy.
DRM5034 Economics & Policy Science of Occupational Safety and Health 3 6 Major Master/Doctor 1-4 - No
This course is to study economic theory and policy science which is essentially needed to understand how to prevent occupational accidents. Students will learn supply and demand of services necessary for accident prevention, privatization of public goods and services including basic economic theory. Also, students will study environmental changes, dynamics of interests among pressure groups and relationship between industrial accidents and compensation. Through this course students enhance their understanding of economics and policy science of occupational safety and health,
DRM5036 Disaster management and mass media 3 6 Major Master/Doctor 1-4 - No
Communications is key to the success of disaster mitigation, preparedness, response and recovery. Accurate information disseminated to the general public, to elected officials and community leaders, and to the media reduces risk, saves lives and property, and speeds recovery. Planning and controlling the flow of information before, during and after a disaster will define your organization's credibility, trustworthiness, authority, and effectiveness. The emergence of new media like the internet, e-mail, blogs, text messaging, cell phone photos, and the increasing role played by "first informers"-- witnesses who now have the ability to transmit information immediately from the event--are redefining the roles of government and media. This subject deals with all the contents related to disaster events.
DRM5037 DISASTER PSYCHOLOGY 3 6 Major Master/Doctor 1-4 - No
This subject is to deal the describution of the post-disaster emotional environment and the steps that rescurers can take to relive their own stressors and those of disaster survivors. The scope if this unit will include introduction and unit overview, dealing with survivors’ trauma, dealing with CERT members’ stress and control their own stress.
DRM5040 Economic Theory on Safety 3 6 Major Master/Doctor 1-8 - No
This course is specifically designed for understanding the economic principles on various safety issues. The topics including the definition of risk assessment, the risk assessment procedures, hazard identification methods, hazard identification methods, hazard control measures, record keeping, job hazard analysis will be discussed.
DRM5041 Special Economic Topics in Occupational Safety and Health 3 6 Major Master/Doctor 1-8 - No
The first half of this course will provide the knowledge, practical skills, and tools to conduct accident and incident investigations. Topics in this interactive course will include needs and responsibilities for investigation, preparation and planning, witness interviewing and qualifying, photographing and diagramming of accident scenes, analytical techniques, report writing, and legal aspects. Human and environmental factors and their interaction with the investigation will also be covered in this course packed with information. Furthermore, in the second half of the course, if you work on or near energized electrical systems, have a safety role at these sites or are an emergency responder, the new electrical safety standards (NFPA 70E) are the next step to a safer electrical environment in the workplace. Anyone who deals with hazards such as electrocutions, fires and explosions should attend. Learn how to prevent serious disabling injuries, damage to equipment and work sites and most importantly, save lives. Additionally, students will learn about the role and responsibility of the employer to develop and implement an energy control program, or lock-out/tag-out (LOTO) for the protection of workers while performing servicing and maintenance activities on machines and equipment.
DRM5042 Disaster Training Content Development 3 6 Major Master/Doctor - No
As modern society advents, diversification of Society aggravates the disaster environment and single accidents are more likely to develop complex disaster. The problem in these situations is that when a disaster occurs the victims could not acquire the significant disaster information such as evacuation line and relief goods. It made secondary damage more. Therefore, this lecture deals with the content development methods for disaster management which is very useful material to access the disaster related information easily and it will make the disaster contents. Also this lecture deals with the technology that the disaster contents can effectively delivers to organizations and personal
DRM5043 Earthquake Seismology 3 6 Major Master/Doctor 1-8 - No
Seismology is the scientific study of earthquakes and the propagation of elastic waves through the Earth or through other planet-like bodies. The field also includes studies of earthquake environmental effects, such as tsunami as well as diverse seismic sources such as volcanic, tectonic, oceanic, atmospheric, and artificial processes (such as explosions). This subject deals with the knowledge of earthquake prediction from the characteristics of earthquake, crustal movement research, tectonic setting, isostasy equilibrium, time series analysis of histrorical data.
DRM5047 Incident Command Systems 3 6 Major Master/Doctor 1-8 - No
The overall course goal is to promote effective response by : Familiarizing you with how Incident Command System (ICS) principles are used to manage incidents. Preparing you to coordinate with response partners from all levels of government and the private sector. At the completion of this course, you should be familiar with : ICS applications, ICS organizational principles and elements, ICS positions and responsibilities, ICS facilities and functions, ICS planning. In addition, you will learn the steps you should take to be accountable for your actions during an incident. The Incident Command System (ICS) is a standardized approach to incident management that : Enables a coordinated response among various jurisdictions and agencies. Establishes common processes for planning and managing resources. Allows for the integration of facilities, equipment, personnel, procedures, and communications operating within a common organizational structure. The Incident Command System was developed in the 1970s following a series of catastrophic fires in California. Property damage ran into the millions, and many people died or were injured. The personnel assigned to determine the causes of these disasters studied the case histories and discovered that response problems could rarely be attributed to lack of resources or failure of tactics.
DRM5048 Disaster Technology Information Management 3 6 Major Master/Doctor 1-8 Korean Yes
In this lecture, students learn the basic theories and principles of the measurements required in the fields of construction (civil, architectural and plant engineering) domains. DRM5049 Smart Disaster Management Technology 3 6 Major Master/Doctor 1-8 - No
the modern society, it is common for various elements to be complicated and the disaster is also a complex disaster. Due to the changing nature of modern society and disaster, the importance of information is also emphasized in disaster area. Foster(1980) argues that 'information is the most important information to cope with disasters that can not be coped with rationally, but information is the most lacking in the actual disaster situation. In this reality, the recent breakthrough of ICT, which is based on artificial intelligence, has become the basis for establishing smart disaster prevention technology. In this lecture, disaster monitoring and forecasting, which is the information technology used in the existing disaster area, and simulation and discovery of information about the satellite, sensor, Learn how to manage efficiently. In addition, it introduces the integrated situation management system that displays and manages various data and information in an integrated manner. It also provides a smart disaster situation which is used for the disaster occurrence, the propagation of the situation and the three-dimensional response between the field and the situation room Learn about the management platform.
