CAL3031 Building Services System 3 6 Major Bachelor 3-4 Civil, Architectural Engineering and Landscape Architecture - No
This course intends to exercise the engineering practices including the basic system configuration and application rule, planning, design, construction and administration, commissioning and maintenance of sanitary system such as water treatment, potable and domestic hot water, drainage and vent, fire protection systems, gas piping, waste water treatment and grey water systems, and other special systems. Concerning mechanical system design and operation which are compatible to the architectural design, this course also provides the practice on the decision-making process to solve the various engineering problems which mechanical engineering consultants could be faced with during the design stages.

The objective of this course is to provide students with an understanding of ecological principles in architecture. Principles of life-cycle design, economy of resources and humanistic design are introduces and ecological factors associated with each of theses principles are examined. Design strategies to increase environmental sustainability in buildings are investigated. An emphasis is given to how environmental factors(heat, light and sound) influence thermal, visual and acoustic qualities in built-in environments. Field trips to visit selected buildings to analyze their ecological characteristics comprise an important part of the course.

Basic theory and analysis techniques in landscape planning and design: physical-ecological analysis, social-psychological analysis, and visual-aesthetic analysis in the natural and man-made environments will be lectured. Emphasis is focused on the social and psychological aspect of man-environment relationships. The objectives of this class are to learn the emotional, aesthetic and behavioral responses to the built and natural environments and to apply these knowledges to environmental design and planning.

In this class, students select topics and sites based on their knowledge and ability of planning, research and design acquired through the entire college education, and deliver suitable planning and design process and creative design ideas. In particular, this class aims the collaboration of architecture background students and students at landscape major. Similar as the professional environment, students from different background learn how to communicate and collaborate each other and derive the comprehensive design that has architectural and landscape concept and strategies in single master plan.

This course aims to understand students with various building codes, design strategies, construction methods, and energy performance evaluation methods required to realize eco-friendly or sustainable buildings for 2050 carbon neutrality. It is a course that helps students who have acquired basic knowledge about building technology, such as architectural engineering and architecture, to understand various element technologies (passive design + active design method, renewable energy system, etc.). In addition, through practice, students can plan zero-energy building and green remodeling of existing buildings.

In this class, based on knowledge and experience of garden and park design, landscape planning, urban theory, and understanding of the urban environment, each student draws a design plan by apply logical and creative planning and design processes. In particular, students will select problematic sites and ecological and social issues - climate change, rapid urbanization, aging, polarization, etc. - and explore solutions through the language of landscape architecture.

CHS2003 Robust System Design with Big Data Analytics and Artificial Intelligence 2 4 Major Bachelor 1-4 Challenge Semester - No
In this course, the fundamental theories and methodologies on big-data analytics and artificial intelligence (AI) algorithms for prognostics and health management (PHM) of engineering systems are mainly covered. More specifically, the reliability analysis, sensor-based big-data collection, signal processing, statistical feature extraction and selection, and AI-based modeling are studied, and the hands-on practices are also carried out. In addition, various case examples are introduced to study the robust engineering system design using the big-data analytics and AI algorithms.

It aims to provide easy and convenient steps of the area, including education of C language basics and various digital/analog sensor control conducted with a toolkit such as Arduino. This course will introduce fundamentals of how human brain works and the state-of-the-art of neuroscience research. This course will cover the convergence of cognitive neuroscience and neurotechnology with humanities and social sciences (e.g., brain-computer interface, neuroscience-based cognitive computing, neuroergonomics, etc.), their applications and future directions through class discussions. This course aims for students to 1) understand the literature in the fields of cognitive neuroscience and neurotechnology based on the understanding of humanities and social sciences; 2) articulate the domains and contexts in which cognitive neuroscience and neurotechnology may be effective; 3) develop an ability to lay out the open questions and address challenges in cognitive neuroscience and neurotechnology research today; and 4) prepare them to be more knowledgeable and proficient professionals.

This course deals with the basic concept for the overall understanding of the technology called 'blockchain'. We will discuss the purpose of technology and background where blockchain techology has emerged. This course aims to give you the opportunity to think about the limitations and applicability of the technology yourself. You will understand the pros and cons of the two major cryptocurrencies: Bitcoin and Ethereum. In addition, we will discuss the concepts and limitations about consensus algorithm (POW, POS), the scalability of the blockchain, and cryptoeconomics. You will advance your understanding of blockchain technogy through discussions among students about the direction and applicability of the technology.
